Mary, Mother of God

Mary, the mother of Jesus, is venerated by Catholics, Orthodox and the Oriental Churches as the Mother of God, and honoured with respect by Anglicans and Lutherans too. The Gospels show her at the Annunciation, in Bethlehem, at Cana and at the foot of the cross. Her main feasts are January 1 (Mary, Mother of God), December 8 (the Immaculate Conception, for Catholics) and August 15 (the Assumption, or Dormition for the Orthodox).
